A major neighborhood attraction, Cooper Dual Language Academy (formerly Orozco Community School) has a façade covered in 2,100 square feet of colorful mural panels. It is the work of award-winning art teacher Francisco Mendoza (1958-2012), whose local credits include the murals canvassing the 18th Street CTA Pink Line Station. Mendoza’s students hand-set the Venetian glass tiles. The panels showcase prominent Mexicans, from legendary muralist Diego Rivera to farmworker advocate Dolores Huerta.
