The Mile of Murals in Rogers Park

The Mile of Murals brings bold imagery and vibrant color to the street-facing walls abutting the elevated CTA Red Line through Rogers Park. Launched in 2007, the project is an initiative intended to promote and celebrate the arts-centered identity of the neighborhood, which includes the Glenwood Avenue Arts District along the corridor. This ongoing series of paintings covers a total of 14,000 square feet of concrete embankments, viaducts and overpasses, with themes ranging from local history and architecture to avian conservation to the digital frontier. This route can be accomplished by foot or bike, with stops along the way to hear from artists and community members who helped actualize this ambitious work of public art running through one of Chicago’s most diverse communities. Trail includes audio commentary by Ana Bermúdez, Rogers Park Business Alliance.
