Neighborhood Trail: Englewood Square, Phase II

Learn how Englewood Square, centered on the intersection of South Halsted and West 63rd streets, will be further developed through Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot’s new INVEST South/West initiative. INVEST South/West pledges hundreds of millions of dollars for transformative quality-of-life improvements in 10 South and West Side community areas using strategic public funding to leverage private investment. The City’s August 2020 release of a request-for-proposals (RFP) focuses on development of long-vacant sites at this Englewood intersection to bring critical new investment to the area. The goal is a new, mixed-use “town square” for Englewood, building community wealth at the once-bustling commercial heart of the neighborhood. Explore these plans and other important satellite projects nearby to bolster urban farming, affordable housing and recreational space—all key priorities expressed by Englewood residents and civic leaders in community plans and through a public review process.
